Our December meeting was all about giving in the holidays. Angel Tree presents were collected for the Hope Fund children of Wimauma. 500 items were donated for the Bare Essentials Ministry of the United Methodist Church of SCC.
Diane Alty received the December Volunteer of the Month award.
Lee Stevens, Director of Carnival World Museum in Gibsonton talked about carnival world, it was very entertaining and informative.

IThe meeting centered around the installation of the 2024 – 2026 Woman’s Club Board of Directors. The past president of GFWC Florida Dianne Foerster conducted the installation. Virginia Kimball’s 2 year presidency was celebrated with a gi, 2025ft of jewelry on behalf of the members, and a special framed photo of her. (See pictures below)
C.A.R.E was selected as the organization to be sponsored by the Health and Wellness Committee for May. The special guest speaker was Cheri Schumacher, Community Outreach coordinator for C.A.R.E., the only no kill animal shelter for cat and dogs in Ruskin. The Woman’s Club collected $460 dollars and $200 worth of toys, towels, and treats along with a $1,000 Club grant to donate to their future modern facility, with ground breaking in a few months. This volunteer-only organization has been serving the Southshore area for 25 years. For more information on donating, adopting, or becoming a volunteer in the shelter to share your love with the homeless animals call Cheri at 813-645-2273.
Lucille was announced as the May Volunteer of the Month. Diane Alty received special recognition for putting together the annual scrapbook/yearbook. The treasurer Deanna St. John announced that the 2024 annual totalling over $10,000 were donated to local charities.
















April 18, 2024
Let’s get physical – fitness for fun: Ichell Davis of the Fitness Center at Club Renaissance challenged us with her recommendations for a healthy eating program, and followed by leading us in some exercises that we can do every day to stay in good health.
Virginia Kimball gave February Volunteer of the Month Award to Carol Kock and April Volunteer of the month to Nancy Mercer. She also gave Diane Alty an umbrella pin recognizing her contributions to our club. Congratulations to all 3 ladies!

Health & Wellness Committee supported Hope Fund by collecting children’s exercise items such as jump ropes, hula hoops, plastic bats and balls and many others. Over 100 items were donated – see picture below.











March 21, 2024
James Paddock, writer of suspense and mystery, presenteda program on the many sources of story ideas, some beginning on a Sun City Center golf course or in your freezer.
Norma Ebner was selected as volunteer of the month.
The nominees for the Board of Directors 2024 – 2026 were announced. Many attendees wore green for St. Patrick’s Day.
Many gifts were donated by club members to Celebrate Birthdays. This organization gives gifts and birthday parties to foster children in need.

In lieu of a monthly general meeting in February, the GFWC SCC Woman’s Club hosted the District 8 Arts and Culture Meeting and Competition. Photos posted under Photograph Tab then DIstrict, State and National Events.
January 18, 2024
Betsy Moriarity from the Counterintelligence Squad of the Tampa FBI presented a program called FBI 101 and discussed cybersecurity. She encourage members to visit the FBI cyber crime reporting website https://www.ic3.gov/ for much more valuable information.
Linda Raymond, Vice President, was chosen as the Volunteer of the Year 2023. Unfortunately she was ill and was unable to receive her award in person at the meeting. (There is a wonderful article about all her contributions in the February newsletter.)
Debbie Caneen, SCC Community Association Board Member, spoke about Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the new building project. 
We collected over $150 for Arbor Day to help buy a tree for the beautification of Sun City Center. 
Beautiful projects were submitted for the Club Arts & Craft Competition 2024.



December 21, 2023
Tom Cummings presented a short story on the LIfe Of Charles Dickens, The Sledgehammer. Festive holiday outfits were worn by the members and pictures of members were taken to celebrate friendship.
Members brought their angel gifts for the children of Wimauma. Thank you to all for your kindness and generosity.
This month instead of the 50/50 beautiful baskets were raffled to benefit
our first responders at the Sun City Center Fire Station #28. The Civic Engagement and
Outreach Committee are planning to provide a brunch/dinner for our firefighters and paramedics.

Lauren Gomez from Manatee Viewing Center talked about their programs and upcoming events.
Health & Wellness: Beth-El Farm Workers Ministry – children’s quilt and blankets were collected. In October we picked names of seniors in care facilities to brighten their holidays and we collected these gifts to be given out at their facilities soon. . Angel Tree names for needy children were chosen for gifts to be brought to December meeting.

September 21, 2023
The Story of Sun City Center Part 2 was presented by Susan Muise from SCC Historical Society. We also heard Karen Indian from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry, we collected 44 boxes of cereal to donate during our Day of Service at the Food Bank.
Virginia Kimball, Club President, awarded Volunteer of the Month to Linda Floyd.
The Health & Wellness Committee selected Selah Freedom as the group to help this meeting, and received donations of almost 40 gently used suitcases, duffle bags, and backpacks for human trafficking survivors.



























May 18, 2023
Our final meeting of the club year was very festive. Two representatives of Enterprising Latinas made a presentation about their work in Wimauma and surrounding areas. We ate a delicious lunch and then selected items from the accessories exchange. Each member that donated an item received a ticket to select a new-to-them from the beautiful selection of purses, bags, scarves, jewelry and other items, limit of 3. Items not selected were donated to Enterprising Latinas.

The program was presented by Kelly Kowall, Director of My Warrior’s Place in Ruskin. Angels were picked from the Angel Tree for Christmas gifts for children in Hope Fund Program in Wimauma.

We celebrated our 60th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary ! A presentation was made by the SCC Historical Society which shared facts and photos – this was only the first part of the presentation, part 2 will be at September 2023 meeting. Our board of directors and committee chairs each spoke briefly about their committee and responsibilities so new members would have an idea of how the club functions and what opportunities there are for members to be active.

Since we have many new members, we took a little time before the speaker to introduce our Board of Directors and Committee Chairwomen. Each person spoke about their position, their duties and a little about their history of the club.
Beverly Hill Gaussiran, SAT-7 Florida Representative, gave a compelling talk about her organization and the assistance it provides in the Middle East and North Africa. They change lives by providing programming through Satellite TV. For more information and ways to help visit their website http://www.sat7usa.org.







On April 13, 2022 we held a Food and More Drive for Our Lady of Guadalupe as the charity selected for April by HomeLife Committee. Instead of collecting items at the General Meeting, we held a drive through dropoff at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

Tom Cummings gave a wonderful performance as Morris Frank, the co-founder of the first guide dog school in the United States. He related heart-warming stories about Buddy, his first guide dog and his experiences in promoting the acceptance of guide dogs.
Ann Bohachek was honored to receive the Super Woman Award from Virginia Kimball. Sharon Alvarez, Past President, awarded this to Virginia a few years ago and now its been passed to Ann. The flowers were from Sally Anne Barclay, Current President. Ann has been a valuable member of the club for 21 years and worked tirelessly to give back to the community. l Congratulations, Ann!
Sue Bernicke was greeted by Sally Anne and Rosita as a new member this month. HomeLife collected needed items for Southeastern Guide Dogs.

Tracy Long from Beth Shoal Ministry spoke about their youth group, and she brought two members of the group, Evelyn who also spoke, and Abbe.
Lucille Flatt and Kathy Leubert were welcomed as new members by Sally Anne Barclay and Rosita Rodriguez-Barton.





January 20, 2022
Our Annual Art Expo was held during the meeting, and many beautiful crafts and artwork were on display. Numerous items won First Prize Blue Ribbons, and Sally Anne Barclay, Club President, will take them to GFWC District 8 competition in February.
6 new members were greeted at the beginning of the meeting and their group picture was taken with Sally Anne and Rosita Rodriguez-Barton, Membership Chair. In the picture, left to right, are Anne Fagan, Rhonda Jinks, Shawna Wainright, Kathy Miller, Christine Morrison and Cherl Putnam.
Annie Garrison, past president of CAHT, spoke about human trafficking in our area. Angie, from the organization Selah Freedom, told us about her journey to overcome her past. The club collected and donated about $400 to CAHT to assist their efforts.
















December 16, 2021
GFWC SCC Woman’s Club members enjoyed the music provided by Michelle Garcia and Greg Taylor of the East Bay High School Theatrical Group. During our delicious luncheon Greg played seasonal tunes on the piano, and both Michelle and Greg sang holiday songs, some even from the musical “Elf”.
2 new members were greeted by Rosita Rodriguez-Barton and Sally Anne Barclay, Leslie Coursolle and Gerry Jackson (in middle left to right).
Every year club members support the children of Wimauma by selecting angel tree requests at the November meeting. This year we were again successful in providing gifts for all requested. Beautifully wrapped presents were collected at the December meeting and then two wonderful volunteers delivered them that afternoon before the school holiday started. We are grateful to be able to support these children in need.

We met at Community Hall for our General Meeting – nice to be back to our traditional location. We again had box lunch that were dined on by hungry members.
Craig Gross spoke about the Gold Star Program and his family’s experience with dealing with the loss of his son Army Corporal Frank Gross. It was a very moving presentation.







October 21, 2021
Our first General Meeting in person for many months! The meeting was held in the Florida Room at SCC Atrium. A delicious box lunch was offered in place of the traditional buffet meal, and it was very enjoyable. Two officers were inducted into their new positions, Virginia Kimball as Vice President and Rosita Rodriguez-Barton as Membership Chairperson.
The speaker was Kimberly Overman, County Commissioner representing District 7. She spoke about her background and also about the current challenges of Hillsborough County residents and changes she is proposing.

We held a zoom meeting with a very entertaining and informative guest. Steve Overton spoke about his experiences as the consumer reporter on WFLA-TV “Eight On Your Side”.




March 18, 2021
The GFWC SCC Woman’s Club happily met at Bunkers Grill to have a luncheon outside. Marge Hartig-Sprecht planned the terrific event for members and we had a wonderful time, talking, drinking and eating on a windy day. Linda Raymond won the prize for Best Decorated Golf Cart and Marge won for Best Costume. Lots of green was worn and many cheerful faces were seen.
We discussed future plans for the club including a Zoom meeting in April, food drive in May, and especially resuming meetings in the fall (fingers crossed). Our election for officers was being held through email and a reminder was given to vote. Thanks to Marge for planning this outing and to Bunkers for providing quick and cheerful service.

Our monthly activity for February was a Charity Collection to benefit Haven of Hope of Hillsborough County. They requested that we collect gift cards or monetary donations. All the gift cards and monetary donations were given to Janet Smith, President of HOH Hillsborough by Marie Ruegar. We raised $1610!

For our monthly meeting, we met via Zoom and were joined by Robin Watt, Assistant Chief – PR of the SCC Emergency Squad. She spoke to members about how the Squad has been working during the pandemic.



December 3 – 4, 2020
On December 3rd and 4th we were finally able to hold our Outdoor Sale to raise funds for the charities which the club supports. This was originally planned to be held in March 2020 at SCC FunFest, but was cancelled due to Covid 19 pandemic. We raised about $2,200 – well worth all the hours and hard work by members. Linda Raymond and Kathy Jones were Co-Chairpersons whose diligent efforts made this a big success, and Linda even kept all the items collected for this sale at her house for almost a year.











November 19, 2020
We held an informative and entertaining Zoom meeting in November. In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote, we saw a short video on “Suffragists – The Fight to Vote.” And for entertainment, George Burns and Gracie Allen (played by Ed Brown and Jeanne Naish) made us laugh with their comedic antics.






October 15, 2020
This event replaced the typical general meeting and we were very successful in collecting items for the Food Pantry. We collected around 1,900 items valuing about $5,700, and $1,200 in monetary donations. The pantry filled 80 boxes with our goods, and added a package of frozen meat and a bag of fresh vegetables for each family. We were elated to be able to provide support to the food pantry.
